How it works:

1. APPLY THE SENSOR

The FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor is applied on to the back of the upper arm with a simple, disposable device called an applicator. When the sensor is applied, a thin, flexible and sterile fibre is inserted just under the skin. In a study conducted by Thomas Haak et al (2017), 92% of patients surveyed (n=119) agree/strongly agree that applying the sensor is less painful than a finger prick.

2. START THE SENSOR

To start obtaining glucose readings, perform a scan of the sensor with either your compatible smartphone running the FreeStyle LibreLink app, or the FreeStyle Libre 2 reader. After a 60-minute warm up period, if you are using the FreeStyle LibreLink app version 2.10 and above, you will receive automatic glucose readings straight to your phone, every minute.* If you are using a FreeStyle Libre 2 reader you will have to scan the sensor to obtain a glucose reading.

You choose which device you want to receive alarms: FreeStyle Libre 2 reader or FreeStyle LibreLink app. You must start your FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor with that selected device. Once you scan your FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor with that device, you can receive alarms only on that device.

3. GET READING

Each transmission from the sensor, if you are using FreeStyle LibreLink, or scan of the sensor, if you are using the reader, gives a current glucose reading, the last 8-hours of glucose history, and a trend arrow showing if glucose is going up, down, or changing slowly. The reader can scan through clothing.

Optional alarms will also let you know when your glucose readings are too high or too low.
